How to Show Up for Your Session

(Spoiler: You don’t need to be perfect)

Over the years, I’ve learned something simple but important: the best sessions don’t happen when everything goes “right.”

They happen when you let go of the pressure, the posing, the idea that you have to show up a certain way and just be present.

That’s where the magic is.

Whether you're coming to your session as a couple, a family, flying solo, or planning an event, this time together is about more than just photos. It’s a pause. A chance to slow down, reconnect, and celebrate exactly where you are right now.

So, how do you get ready for something like that?

Show up honestly.

You don’t need to be photogenic. You don’t need to fake a smile. You don’t need your kids to behave like they’re in a holiday commercial.

The camera doesn’t need perfection. It needs presence.

I’ll guide you gently throughout our time — helping you settle in, move naturally, and find your rhythm. But the best photos? They come from trust. From you simply being you.

Wear what feels like you.

Here’s what I’ve found works best:

  • Soft, earthy, or neutral tones

  • Avoiding neon, logos, and anything overly busy

  • Outfits that coordinate without matching exactly

  • Layers, textures, and fabrics that move with you

But honestly? If you feel good in it, that will show. Confidence is always the best styling choice.

Have two outfits? Bring one comfy and one more dressed-up. But don’t overthink it. Comfort over trend, always.

Bring what matters.

You don’t need much — but if it feels meaningful, bring it.

That might be:

  • Snacks and water (especially for kids)

  • A blanket or bouquet

  • A well-loved book, a letter, or an heirloom

  • A backup outfit or shoes you can walk in

  • Or nothing at all. Sometimes less is more.

Often, it’s the little, personal touches that make the biggest impact.

On the day of:

  • Arrive on time, especially if we’re chasing golden light

  • Eat beforehand so everyone has the energy to be present

  • Empty your pockets (phones, keys, hair ties on wrists — they sneak into shots!)

  • Let go of any pressure to “perform”

If you’re bringing kids, I’ll follow their lead. They don’t need to smile on cue. The playful chaos is part of the story — and I promise, it’s worth remembering.

Let it unfold.

My sessions are relaxed, flexible, and rooted in storytelling. We’ll walk, explore, move, pause. You don’t need a plan — I’ll take care of the pacing and direction. All you have to do is be there.

After our session, I’ll send your edited gallery within 1–2 weeks, where you can download your images and order prints if you’d like.

You’re already doing the most important part: choosing to remember this moment.

The rest? I’ve got you.
